#32 Brandeis Shuts Out Wheaton (Mass.)

The #32 Brandeis men's tennis swept Wheaton (Mass.) College 9-0 on Thursday, improving to 6-3 on the season. The Lyons fell to 3-2.

The Judges handled the doubles matches easily, winning all three by at least five points. In the No. 1 matchup, sophomore Eric Goldberg (Solon, Ohio / Solon) and junior Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn. / Brentwood) handled Wheaton's David Gassen and Jeremiah Ryser easily, winning 8-3. Senior Danny Lubarsky (Cleveland, Ohio / Hawken School) and junior Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla. / Gulliver Prep.) swept away their opponents in the No. 2 matchup, winning 8-0. In the No. 3 matchup,  rookie Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) and junior Ryan Bunis (Cincinnati, Ohio / Groton-Dunstable) won 8-2.

Singles action was a bit closer, as three matchups went to tiebreakers. In the No. 2, Arguello defeated Will White, 6-1, 7-6 (3), in the No. 3, Ng beat Shreve Archer 6-2, 7-6 (3), and in the No. 4 matchup, junior Jeff Cherkin (Melville, N.Y. / Half Hollow Hills East) won 6-1, 7-6 (4). Bunis took a closely contested first set in the No. 1 matchup, 7-5, and easily took the second set from Gassen, 6-1. In the No. 5 and No. 6 matchups, rookies Jordan Brodie (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman School) and Harshil Dwivedi (Greenwood Village, Colo. / Cherry Creek) beat their opponents 6-0, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively.
