No. 7 Tartans Earn Victory Against No. 18 Kenyon

The seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team won its third match in three days, defeating 18th-ranked Kenyon College, 5-4, on Sunday, April 3 at Club 4 Life in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, after cold temperatures forced the match indoors.

Kenyon held a 2-1 advantage after doubles with the number two pair of sophomore Jeffrey Chen (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and junior Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) picking up the point for the Tartans with an 8-4 win.

The Lords then took a 3-1 lead with a win at number four singles before two freshmen tied the match for the Tartans. Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at second singles just ahead of Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) winning at third singles, 6-2, 6-1.

Senior Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) brought the Tartans within match point as he came from behind to win 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) at first singles.

The match was then secured by junior Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep) with his 6-2, 6-2 victory at sixth singles.
