No. 7 Tartans Close Spring Break with 6-3 Win Against No. 28 Sewanee

The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team closed its spring break tour with a 6-3 win against Sewanee on Friday, March 11. The Tartans, ranked seventh in the nation, are now 9-5 on the season while the Tigers, ranked 28th are now 4-5.

The Tartans won two of three doubles matches with sophomore Jeffrey Chen (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and junior Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) winning 8-6 in the second position and seniors Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) and Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) winning 8-4 in the third position.

In singles play, junior Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep) won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 while freshman Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

Zheng won his fifth singles match, 6-1, 6-4 while freshman Vayum Arora (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) was victorious at third singles, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-2.
