Six UAA Men Recognized With ITA Singles All-America Honors

Six University Athletic Association men garnered ITA All-America singles honors for the 2015-16 season.

2016 UAA Most Valuable Player Rafe Mosetick of UAA champion Emory University earned All-America honors for the first time. The South Atlantic Region Senior Player of the Year finished 27-8 in his first season as the Eagles’ No. 1 singles player. Mosetick won the ITA South Atlantic Region title in the fall and finished second in the ITA Small College National Championship. He advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III individual championship.

UAA Rookie of the Year and ITA National Rookie of the Year Jonathan Jemison of the Eagles posted a 27-5 mark in his freshman season, 18-2 at No. 2 doubles. He finished second to Mosetick in the ITA South Atlantic Region singles championship in the fall and advanced to the NCAA Division III individual championship in the spring.

The Emory doubles combination of sophomore Scott Rubinstein and freshman James Spaulding reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III doubles championship to earn All-America accolades.

Senior Abhishek Alla, a three-time Academic All-America selection from Carnegie Mellon University, earned his third singles All-America honor. He captured his second ITA Southeast Region title in the fall and reached the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III individual championship in May.

Freshman Daniel Levine of the Tartans began his career with All-America honors in singles and doubles. Levine posted a 23-10 record in singles and earned a victory in the NCAA Division III individual championship. He and fellow freshman Vayum Arora earned a spot in the NCAA Division III doubles championship and earned All-America recognition.

2015 UAA Most Valuable Player and 2016 first team Academic All-American CJ Krimbill of Case Western Reserve University finished his career with seven All-America honors after receiving singles and doubles honors this season. Krimbill finished the season 30-6 in singles with a 25-3 mark at No. 1 singles and teamed with senior Louis Stuerke to reach the semifinals of the NCAA Division III doubles championship and end the season with a 32-6 mark.

Sophomore Nicolas Chua of the University of Chicago earned his second All-America singles honors in as many years and teamed with classmate David Liu for All-America doubles recognition. Chua captured the ITA Central Region singles title for the second consecutive year, while he and Liu won the region’s doubles title and finished third in the ITA National Small College Championships. Chua earned his second trip to the NCAA Division III individual championship and teamed with Liu for a 25-11 mark in doubles and a spot in the NCAA Division III doubles championship.
 

Criteria for ITA Division III All-America:

Singles:

1.) Top 8 seed in NCAA singles tournament.
2.) Win one round at NCAA singles tournament.
3.) Finish in the Top 20 in the final Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
4.) Win USTA/ITA Fall Regional Tournament.
5.) Wins first-round match at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships.

Doubles:

1.) Top 4 seed in NCAA doubles tournament.
2.) Win one round at NCAA doubles tournament.
3.) Finish in the Top 10 in the final Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
4.) Win USTA/ITA Fall Regional Tournament.
5.) Wins first-round match at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships.
