Emory senior Rafe Mosetick was successful in his opening two matches on Thursday at the NCAA Division III Singles Championships.  In addition, the Eagles' tandem of sophomore Scott Rubinstein and freshman James Spaulding recorded a victory in their first match of the Doubles Championships.  The event is being held at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Mosetick, the No. 3 seed in the 32-player field, rallied for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, triumph over Glenn Hull of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps before posting a 6-1, 6-2 verdict over Bowdoin College's Luke Tercek.  The two results improved Mosetick's season record to 27-7 and his career ledger to 91-28, with his victory total tying for fifth place on the program's all-time chart. Mosetick, the top-ranked player in the Atlantic South Region, has moved into the Friday's quarterfinal round where he will match up against Zachary Hewlin of Whitman College. Hewlin, 20-4 on the season, was voted the Northwest Conference Player of the Year and is the No. 4-ranked player in the West Region. The Mosetick-Hewlin showdown is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am on Friday with the winner moving into the semifinals later that day at 1:00 pm.

Rubinstein and Spaulding rolled to a 6-2, 6-1, win over the Gustavus Adolphus duo of Mohanad Al Houni and Andres Saenz. The win allows the pair to earn All-America status by virtue of winning a match at the national doubles tournament, while raising their record to 17-11.  Rubinstein and Spaulding will face Palmer Campbell and Hamid Derbani from Middlebury in Friday's quarterfinals with a scheduled start of 3:00 pm.

Freshman Jonathan Jemison competed in the Singles Championship and lost to No.4 seed Skyler Butts of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 0-6, 4-6, closing out his season record at 27-5.
