Chicago Sweeps Gustavus Adolphus in Singles to Win 7-2

From University of Chicago Athletics

For the seventh time this season, the University of Chicago men's tennis team swept all six singles matches en route to a 7-2 victory against Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday.

The No. 5-ranked Maroons improved to 14-3 and the No. 18-ranked Gusties fell to 19-7.

Gustavus Adolphus held the early advantage by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles by matching 8-6 scores. The No. 2 doubles combo of freshman Charlie Pei and sophomore Peter Leung earned UChicago a team point, 8-5.

Once singles came around, the first sets played evenly, with each team getting three. However, it was all UChicago after that. The Maroons ground down the Gusties as five second-sets were won either 6-2 or 6-1. UChicago triumphed in each of the three third-sets as well to finish off the day.

Pei and Leung were multiple winners with straight sets at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Sophomores Nicolas Chua and David Liu, along with junior Sven Kranz, earned the three-set victories at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. Sophomore Luke Tsai provided a team point at No. 6 as well in straight sets.
