The University of Rochester men's tennis team didn't drop a set in a 9-0 sweep over visiting Nazareth College on Thursday evening at the Goergen Athletic Center.
Rochester (4-7) snaps a four game losing streak while the Golden Flyers drop to 1-7 on the year.
The Yellowjackets had two double winners on the day in freshman Masaru Fujimaki and senior Ben Mermelstein. Fujimaki won at #1 singles and #1 doubles while Mermelstein won at #4 singles and #3 doubles.
The Yellowjackets posted three impressive wins to start the match in doubles play. Fujimaki paired with Aaron Mevorach to win 8-2 at #1 over Tyler Williams and Lamar Hurt. UR's Sam Leeman and Mermelstein won by that same score in the #3 spot over Jared Sharza and Scott Trobert. Ian Baranowski and Kevin Hunt posted a shutout win at #2, winning 8-0 over Louis Rogers and Christian Bryant.
In singles, Rochester didn't drop a set. Fujimaki and Williams battled it out at #1 with the UR freshman winning 6-3, 6-2. Senior Ben Shapiro didn't surrender a game at #2, topping Trobert 6-0, 6-0.
The Yellowjackets Andrew Nunno was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Rogers at #3 while Mermelstein won by a 6-0, 6-1 score over Bryan at #4. Rounding out the match, Jun Yuminaga defeated Ryley Amond 6-0, 6-2 at #5 while Ryan Zu was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Sharza at #6.
