Yellowjackets End Fall Season With 7-2 Victory Over Roberts Wesleyan

The University of Rochester men's tennis team closed out the fall portion of its schedule with a 7-2 victory over Division II Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday evening at the Goergen Athletic Center.

Rochester (1-0) opened the dual match season after starting the year with back-to-back tournaments in the two of the last three weekends. The loss is Roberts Wesleyan's first on the year as the Redhawks drop to 3-1.
 
Four Yellowjackets were double winners on the day, with Sam Leeman, Ben Shapiro, Aaron Mevorach and Andrew Nunno all picking up two victories.
 
UR opened the match strong with three wins in doubles to grab control.  First, Shapiro and Nunno won 8-5 over Dustin Eshleman and Gui Plentz de Liz at 3rd doubles. That was followed by Leeman and Masaru Fujimaki winning 8-3 at 2nd doubles over Charles Farres and Rene Torti. Ian Baranowski and Mevorach made it a clean sweep at 1st doubles with an 8-3 triumph over Robert Beer and Jose Lopez.
 
In singles, Shapiro and Leeman won at #4 and #3 respectively to seal the win for the Yellowjackets. Shapiro defeated Plentz de Liz 6-1, 6-4 while Leeman won 7-6 (5), 6-3 over Lopez.
 
After Farres topped Fujimaki 7-6 (3), 6-2 at #1 and Beer defeated Baranowski 6-4, 6-3 at #2, Rochester ended the match on a high note with wins from Mevorach at #5 and Nunno at #6.  Mevorach topped Torti in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 while Nunno was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Eshleman.
