Rochester Records Third Consecutive Shutout, Tops St. Lawrence

It was another 9-0 sweep for the University of Rochester men's tennis team as the Yellowjackets defeated host St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon in a non-league tennis matchup.
 
Rochester (6-7) wins its third straight 9-0 decision after winning via sweep over RIT earlier this week and Nazareth College two weeks ago.  The loss drops the Saints to 6-6.
 
The Yellowjackets made quick work of the doubles competition, winning all three matches by 8-2 scores or better.  UR's #1 team of Aaron Mevorach and Masaru Fujimaki were 8-1 winners over Elliot Solandt and Robert Schmitz.  Rochester's Ben Shapiro and Andrew Nunno were also 8-1 winners at #2 over Rhonny Rosario and Spencer Whitemire.  The 3rd doubles spot put Rochester's Kevin Hunt and Ian Baranowski up against Paul Barrett and Dean Sponholz with the Yellowjacket duo winning 8-2.
 
In singles, Rochester won five of six matches in straight sets with only #4 going the distance.
 
UR's Sam Leeman picked up the first singles point via a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kevin Frommer at #5.  Shapiro then won the clinching point with his 6-4, 6-4 win at #2 over Rosario.
 
Baranowski then topped Schmitz 7-5, 6-0 at #3 while Nunno defeated Marco Amendola 6-1, 6-4 at the #6 spot on the ladder.  Rounding out the match, Mevorach outlasted Barrett 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 at #4 while Fujimaki was a 6-2, 6-7 (4) winner at the top spot.
