Rochester Tops Vassar 8-1

The University of Rochester men's tennis team picked up a key regional win over Vassar College on Saturday afternoon at the Goergen Athletic Center.
 
UR (2-2) defeated Vassar by an 8-1 score and had five double winners in the match that snapped a two game losing streak. Vassar drops to 3-4 on the year with the loss.
 
The Yellowjackets started off strong sweeping the three matches in doubles play. #1 team Ian Baranowski and Aaron Mevorach were 8-5 winners over Daniel Cooper and Nick Zuczek. Ben Shapiro and Andrew Nunno then topped Evan Udine and Alex Luckmann 9-7 at #2 and that followed by Masaru Fukimaki and Sam Leeman defeating Nick Litsky and Gray Thurstone 8-2 to complete the sweep.
 
In singles, Leeman won 7-5, 6-2 over Juan Felipe Laso at #4 to get things started, pulling UR within a point of clinching the match. Vassar's Cooper then earned his teams only point of the day with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Baranowski at the #2 spot.
 
Senior captain Shapiro then earned the fifth and clinching match point with his three-set victory over Udine at #3. Shapiro was a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 winner. Fujimaki then rallied after losing the first set to Litsky at #1, winning 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
 
Completing the impressive win were Mevorach and Nunno who each had straight set victories at #5 and #6 respectively. Mevorach topped Jamie Anderson 6-2, 6-0 and Nunno added a 6-1, 6-2 win over Nick Lee.
