The No. 6-ranked Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team will host the St. Louis Regional of the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships Friday-Sunday, May 13-15, at Tao Tennis Center on the WashU campus. This marks the eighth time in the last nine seasons WashU has hosted regional play.
Grinnell College (29-5) and Edgewood College (15-10) meet Friday in the first round at 3 p.m., with the winner taking on host WashU Saturday at Noon. No. 16-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (22-6) and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (20-8) will meet in the other second round match Saturday at 3 p.m.
The winners will meet in the Regional Championship match Sunday at Noon.
The Bears, who are headed to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th straight season, received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after finishing second at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship. WashU has a 16-5 overall record.
WashU is making its 18th NCAA appearance as a Division III institution and 21st overall. The Bears have advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals nine straight seasons and 12 times in school history.
WashU has an overall record of 38-21 (.644) in 17 trips to the NCAA Division III tournament, and won the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championship.
The Bears are one of five UAA squads selected to host Regional play: No. 1 Emory University, No. 5 Carnegie Mellon University, No. 7 Case Western Reserve University and No. 8 University of Chicago.
Kalamazoo College will host the 2016 NCAA Division III Team Championship Monday-Wednesday, May 23-25, at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich. The NCAA Individual Championships are scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 26-28. Student-athletes selected to compete in the individual championships will be announced Wednesday, May 11.
