Emory Rallies For Win Over Amherst

The No. 1-ranked Emory men's tennis team rallied for an exciting Saturday afternoon home win against Amherst College. The Eagles upped their spring to 7-3 following a 5-4 decision over the No. 15 Purple and White who fell to 11-1.

Emory enjoyed a 2-1 lead after doubles with the tandem of senior Scott Rubinstein and sophomore James Spaulding winning at No. 1 and the duo of junior David Omsky and sophomore Jonathan Jemison winning their fifth straight outing at No. 3, raising their spring slate to 7-3.

Amherst took early control in singles, posting the first three wins that gave it a 4-2 edge in the match. Senior Josh Goodman started the Eagles on their comeback, coming away with an intense 7-5, 7-5 triumph vs. Oscar Burney at No. 6, boosting his spring record to 5-3. Senior Aman Manji's outcome over Zach Bessette, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 knotted the contest and improved his spring record to 7-3, 16-4 overall. The match was decided at the No. 2 spot where Jemison scrapped to a three-set verdict over Anton Zykov, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2, his eighth win in 10 decisions this spring.
