The New York University men's tennis team completed its second day at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships on Sunday, October 2, at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.

The Violets began the day with two singles players and two doubles pairs remaining in the tournament.

In Round 3 of singles play, senior Matt DeMichiel fell to Skidmore College's Kai Yuen Leung 7-5, 6-2, while senior Umberto Setter defeated The College of New Jersey's Mitchel Sanders 6-2, 6-1. Setter then bested Vassar College's Nick Litsky 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to advance to Monday's semifinals.

"Umberto has had a very strong weekend," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "He dominated his first match, and he didn't let up in the quarterfinals."

In doubles play, both remaining NYU pairs-- DeMichiel and sophomore Benedict Teoh, and Setter and freshman Zeb Zheng, fell in Round 3. DeMichiel and Teoh were defeated by University of Rochester's Andrew Nunno and Sam Leeman 8-5, while Setter and Zheng lost to Stevens Institute of Technology's Kyle Cenderelli and Kyle Henry 8-5.
