The #28-ranked New York University men's tennis team defeated Merrimack College 8-1 on Sunday, April 2, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx.
The Violets (7-2) won all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches to earn their fourth-straight victory.
"This was a good match after our TCNJ win," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy.
Senior Umberto Setter and freshman Benedict Teoh led the way for NYU with victories in both singles and doubles play. Setter beat Frank Vega 6-4, 7-6 (4) in #1 singles, and defeated Mikhail Belov and Nick Majewski with partner Samuel Khoshbin in #1 doubles. Teoh earned a 6-1. 7-6 (5) win over Majewski in #2 singles, and beat Vega and Alex Federov 8-3 with partner Michael Li in #2 doubles.
"Our team came out strong in the doubles and maintained that level for the most part through the singles," explained Choy. "We got contributions throughout the lineup."
OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:
- Senior Matt DeMichiel and freshman Zeb Zheng shut out James Hook and Thomas O'Brien (8-0) in #3 doubles.
- Freshmen Xavier Pacthod (6-4, 6-1) and Vishal Walia (6-1, 6-1), and sophomore Yanik Parsch (6-3, 6-0) picked up wins in #4-6 singles, respectively.
