Umberto Setter of NYU Reaches ITA Northeast Regional Final

From NYU Athletics

Umberto Setter of the New York University men's tennis team fell in the finals of the singles tournament at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships on Monday, October 3, at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.

Setter took on a pair of opponents from Skidmore College Monday, first defeating Steven Koulouris 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinal round, before falling to Kai Yuen Leung 6-4, 6-3 in the championship. The NYU senior qualified for Monday's semifinal with four victories this weekend in Geneva.

"Umberto had a great weekend overall," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy. "His performance was a testament to his work ethic. He suffered a broken foot last February, but worked hard to get back and he had a successful fall season."

Setter is the first NYU men's tennis player to compete in the singles final at the ITA Championships since Steven Wu accomplished the feat in 2013.
