NYU Edges Stevens

From NYU Athletics

The #28-ranked New York University men's tennis team defeated #38 Stevens Institute of Technology 5-4 on Wednesday, April 12, at McCarren Park in Brooklyn, NY.

"This was a good finish to the regular season," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy.

The Violets dropped the first two doubles matches, but the #3 team of senior Matt DeMichiel and freshman Zeb Zheng defeated Divin Sarthok and William Persson 8-5 to cut NYU's deficit to 2-1 heading into the singles matches.

In singles play, the Violets earned wins in #1-4 from senior Umberto Setter (4-6, 6-1, 6-4), sophomore Benedict Teoh (6-4, 4-6, 6-3), freshman Michael Li (6-1, 7-5), and DeMichiel (6-4, 6-1), respectively, to win their sixth straight match and improve to 9-2 on the season. The Ducks dropped to 6-10.

"Stevens came out strong and won two of three doubles," added Choy. "We were down 3-1 at one point before winning the next four matches to win the match."
