The New York University men's tennis team defeated the United States Coast Guard Academy 8-1 on Wednesday, April 5, at McCarren Park in Brooklyn, NY.

The Violets won two of three doubles matches and all six singles matches to improve to 8-2 on the season. The Bears dropped to 3-3.

"Coast Guard competed well, but we were able to control play more and capitalized on our opportunities," said NYU Head Coach Horace Choy.


OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- Three Violets - senior Matt DeMichiel (#4 singles, #3 doubles), sophomore Benedict Teoh (#2 singles, #2 doubles), and freshman Michael Li (#3 singles, #2 doubles) each earned a pair of victories on the afternoon.

- Senior Umberto Setter came back from a close loss in #1 doubles and defeated Thomas Hackett 6-1, 6-0 in #1 singles.

- Freshmen Vishal Walia (6-0, 6-1) and Xavier Pacthod (6-3, 6-3) won in #5 and #6 singles, respectively. Both players have now won five straight singles matches.

The Violets are back in action against Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, April 12, their final match before the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship.

"We have one more match before the UAA's, so we are looking to stay focused and head into the Championships with momentum," added Choy.
