In its first action of the new year, the University of Chicago men's tennis team captured a pair of dominating team wins 8-1 and 9-0 at Coe College on Saturday.
The No. 5-ranked Maroons moved to 3-0 on the season. The No. 35-ranked Kohawks dropped to 0-2.
The double dual featured two complete matches, with a total of 12 singles matches and six doubles bouts. UChicago tallied victories in 17 out of the 18 matches. Two of the doubles matches went to tiebreakers and one singles match went a full three sets, but the Maroons came out on top each time. Ten players picked up wins in both singles and doubles on the day.
"It was nice to get back out on the courts and see everyone competing again," Head Coach Jay Tee said. "We weren't perfect today but we really weren't looking for perfection. With so many new players and people playing in new spots, it was important to get everyone a match or two and to take stock of where we are at as a team and individually. Now we can get back to work on Monday and improve in some key areas before competing again next weekend versus Hope College."
