Yellowjackets Win 8-1 Over Ithaca

The University of Rochester earned a decisive 8-1 win over Ithaca College on Sunday afternoon in men's tennis action at the Goergen Athletic Center. 

The Yellowjackets (3-2) took all three doubles matches and never looked back, only dropping one match, that coming at the #1 singles spot in a marathon 3-set affair.  The loss drops Ithaca to 0-1 as the Bombers were kicking off their dual meet schedule on Sunday.

UR had four double-winners on the day, as Andrew Nunno, Sam Leeman, Aaron Mevorach and Sahaj Somani all won in both singles and doubles.  Yifan Shen also won a singles match while Tanmay Thakkar and Masaru Fujimaki were winners in doubles.

The doubles pair of Somani and Thakkar started things off with an 8-3 win over Nathan Wolf and Max Prestwich.  Nunno and Leeman then made it 2-0 Rochester with an 8-4 victory, defeating Wes Davis and Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos.  The final doubles point went to UR in an 8-7 decision, with Mevorach and Fujimaki winning over Minos Stavrakas and Michael Gardiner.

In singles, all five of UR's wins went in straight sets.  Mevorach won over Colten Lavery 6-2, 6-2 at #4 while the fifth and clinching point went to Nunno who defeated Davis at #2, 6-1, 6-3.

Leeman then beat Gardiner 6-3, 6-2 in the #3 position which was followed by wins at #5 and #6 from Somani and Shen over Wolf and Prestwich respectively.  Somani won 6-3, 6-2 while Shen was a 6-2, 6-1 winner.

The final match, and Ithaca's lone point on the day went to Stavrakas, defeating UR's Fujimaki 7-6, 5-7, 10-5.
