Rochester Posts Shutout Win Over Oneonta

The University of Rochester team breezed past SUNY Oneonta 9-0 in men's tennis action on Wednesday evening at the Goergen Athletic Center.

The win snaps Rochester's four match losing streak and pulls the Yellowjackets back to .500 on the year, at 8-8. Oneonta's loss drops the Red Dragons to 4-8.

UR had four double-winners on the day, led by Masaru Fujimaki who won at both #1 doubles and #1 singles. Sam Leeman was a #2 doubles and #2 singles winner while Aaron Mevorach and Tanmay Thakkar also won twice on the day.

The 'Jackets jumped on Oneonta early in doubles, sweeping all three positions.  Fujimaki and Mevorach were 8-4 winners at #1 over Micahel Nelson and Joseph D'Orazio. Leeman paired with Mattias Hartveit for an 8-5 win at #2 over Timothy Distler and Nicholas Fox. Thakkar and Damani Eubanks capped the 3-0 doubles sweep with an 8-6 win over Zach Lasky and Marco Ammirati.

In singles, Leeman earned the first point after his opponent was forced to retire after dropping the first set. Thakkar then won the matches fifth point with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Cole Laffitte at the #4 position.

Mevorach then defeated Michael DeNigris 6-2, 6-3 at #3 while Fujimaki was closing out a 6-4, 6-0 win at the top spot over Nelson.

Closing out the match, Ryan Zu defeated Fox at #6 6-3, 6-3, and Sahaj Somani outlasted Lasky at #5 by a 6-4, 7-5 score.
