Rochester Celebrates Senior Day With Win

The University of Rochester men's tennis team picked up its ninth win of the season, defeating St. Lawrence University 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Goergen Athletic Center.

UR moves to 9-8 on the season with the victory while the Saints drop to 3-7 on the year.

Overall, Rochester's Sam Leeman was the lone double-winner of the match, winning at #2 doubles and #1 singles.  In doubles, he paired with teammate Mattias Hartveit for an 8-3 win over Kevin Frommer and Elliot Solandt before winning 6-3, 7-5 at the top singles position over Dean Sponholz.

The Yellowjackets finished off doubles play with a 2-1 lead in the overall match.  Besides the win at #2, UR's Damani Eubanks and Ryan Zu earned an 8-2 win at 3rd doubles over Spencer Whitmire and Marco Amendola while the visiting Saints picked up the #1 doubles point when Sponholz and Eric Tecce defeated Aaron Mevorach and Tanmay Thakkar.

In singles, Mevorach kicked things off with a 6-1, 6-3 win at #3 over Frommer, with Leeman's win at #1 pulling UR within one point of clinching the match.

St. Lawrence stayed alive when Amendola topped Thakkar at #4 in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 but Jun Yuminaga won the fifth and deciding point for the 'Jackets at #2.  Yuminaga defeated Tecce 6-0, 4-6 and 6-1.

Rounding out the match, Yifan Shen defeated Alec Roslin 6-2, 6-2 at #5 while Solandt ended the match with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Zu at #6.

Saturday's match served as senior day for UR's two seniors, Leeman and Zu.
