The Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team concluded play at the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional held Sept. 23-25 at Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Senior John Carswell, the No. 4 seed, advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to No. 8 seed David Liu of the University of Chicago 6-3, 6-4.
Junior Johnny Wu, the No. 7 seed, also made a run to the quarterfinals before suffering a 6-3, 6-1 defeat to No. 2 seed Nicolas Chua.
In doubles play, No. 9 seed junior Jason Haugen and and sophomore Konrad Kozlowski posted an upset victory in the quarterfinals over top-seed David Liu and Chua of Chicago 8-5. The duo had its run come to an end with an 8-4 loss to No. 9 seed Erik Kerrigan and Ninan Kumar of Chicago in the semifinals.
WashU also had student-athletes compete at the Western Michigan/Vredevelt Invitational this weekend while in Kalamazoo. Freshman Robin Engel posted a pair of wins to highlight a 3-5 singles record for the Bears, while WashU recorded a 2-2 record in four doubles matches.
