Sam Concannon of CWRU Reaches Quarterfinals of ITA Regionals

Case Western Reserve University sophomore Sam Concannon won two more singles matches on Saturday afternoon to reach the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall Central Region Championships, hosted by Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

After winning his two matches on Friday, including an opening-round victory over the draw's 17th-seeded player, Concannon (unseeded entering the tournament) followed with a 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 win over Titas Bera of Wooster, the third-overall seed, in the round of 32.  He then topped 17th-seeded Nicholas Paolucci of Kenyon College in the round of 16, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals.

Up next for Concannon is Jeremy Yuan of the University of Chicago at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.  The winner would advance to the semifinal match at 12:00 p.m., with the singles championship scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Monday.

Also winning a pair of singles matches on Sunday was sophomore Anthony Kanam, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation draw, while freshmen Vivi Vemula claimed a pair of wins and a victory by walkover to advance to the semifinals of the consolation bracket.
