CWRU Sweeps Franciscan 9-0

The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team, ranked 20th in Division III, turned in a dominant result on Sunday afternoon, sweeping Franciscan University 9-0 at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio.

The win raised the Spartans' overall record on the year to 10-8, as the team earned its third sweep of the season, and its first since a 9-0 win over the University of Rochester on March 3rd. Franciscan dropped to 9-9 with the loss.

In doubles action, senior James Fojtasek and Anthony Kanam defeated Jake Haffner and Jarek Sulak 8-5 in the first match, sophomores Sam Concannon and Zach Hennessey combined for an 8-2 win at second doubles over John Gallagher and Connor Jooste, and sophomore Siddharth Rajupet and junior Rob Stroup defeated Luke Conrad and Jack Galla 8-2 at third doubles.

CWRU would go on to win each of the six singles matches in straight sets.  Four Spartans claimed perfect victories in singles action, as Fojtasek bested Haffner at first singles, Kanam topped Sulak at second singles, Stroup defeated Jooste at fourth singles, and Hennessey defeated Galla at sixth singles, each by a 6-0, 6-0 score. At third singles, Concannon claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win over Gallagher, and Rajupet earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Conrad at fifth singles.
