From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Facing NCAA Division II and NAIA programs at the Racer Invitational, hosted by the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima over the weekend, the Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team finished with a combined 6-6 doubles record and a 7-5 singles mark.

Action throughout the weekend featured a hidden dual format, with teams facing off for individual results, but not team scores.  Play begin with doubles on Friday, followed by singles matches on Saturday, with the Spartans taking on Walsh (Division II), Lawrence Tech (NAIA), Northwestern Ohio (NAIA), Wayne State (Division II) and Findlay (Division II).

During Friday's doubles play, sophomore Henry Squire went a perfect 3-0, winning a pair of matches with sophomore Siddharth Rajupet (6-3 over Wayne State's Griffin Mertz and Derek Sammons and 6-1 over Walsh's Filipp Kulynych and Tim Bruin) and another with sophomore Anthony Kanam (7-6 (4) over Findlay's Jorge Barnuevo and Trevor Majdalani).  Kanam added his second doubles victory of the weekend, teaming with freshman Matthew Chen to best Lawrence Tech's Javier Alvarez and Robert Saitov 6-4, and freshman Earl Hsieh secured a pair of doubles wins, topping Wayne State's Niklas Kracz and Daniel Kellenbenz 6-4 with freshman Aris Jhaveri and Walsh's Clemens Wagner and Jonah Carter 6-2 with Chen.

Both Kanam and Rajupet followed Friday's doubles success with perfect 2-0 singles performances on Saturday.  Kanam topped Northwestern Ohio's Artur Culicovschi 2-6, 7-6, 10-5 and Wayne State's Niklas Kracz 6-7, 6-2, 10-8, while Rajupet picked up a 6-1, 5-7, 12-0 victory over Northwestern Ohio's Marcos Salazar and a 6-2, 6-4 win over Harvey Reed of Wayne State.  Also claiming singles wins on Saturday were Hsieh (6-4, 4-6, 10-7 over Alfredo Barcelo of Northwestern Ohio), Jhaveri (5-7, 7-6 (5), ret.) over Thale Schmitz of Northwestern Ohio) and Squire (6-2, 7-5 over Kellenbenz of Wayne State).
