Jay Tee and Kris Powell of Chicago Honored as ITA Men’s National Coaches of the Year

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) selected University of Chicago tennis coaches Jay Tee and Kris Powell as national coaches of the year on Thursday.

Tee was named the Wilson ITA Men's Coach of the Year, while Powell received tasc Performance ITA Men's Assistant Coach of the Year honors.

The UChicago duo was previously picked as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Coaching Staff of the Year in April, followed by ITA Central Region Coaches of the Year recognition on May 17.

The 2017-18 Maroon men won their first UAA title in program history by defeating Emory University 7-2 in the final. UChicago posted a 19-5 overall record and advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the third time in four years.

Tee is in his sixth season as head coach of the UChicago men's and women's teams, with Powell serving the past four years as assistant coach. In Tee's tenure, the squads own a combined dual record of 192-82 with 10 qualifications to the NCAA Division III Championships. The Maroons have reached the NCAA quarterfinals seven times and the NCAA Final Four on three occasions.
