The New York University men's tennis team hosted Haverford College on Saturday, February 24, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx, where the team won its spring season opener 6-3.
In doubles play, the Violets took two out of three matches from Haverford behind wins from Umberto Setter and Zeb Zheng (9-7) in #1 doubles, and Rahul Das and Vishal Walia (8-4) in #3 doubles.
In singles play, NYU earned wins from Setter (6-4, 6-3) in #1 singles, Das (6-2, 6-1) in #2 singles, Wallia (6-1, 6-1) in #4 singles, and Yanik Parsch (7-2, 6-1) in #5 singles.
"This was a great start to the season," said NYU Assistant Coach Matt DiMichiel in his coaching debut.
Other Highlights
NYU lost three close matches: Michael Li and Joshua Piatos #2 doubles (8-6), Li's #3 singles (6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0), and Zheng's #6 singles (7-5, 4-6, 1-0).
"I think the guys can use this to build off of for the big matches next weekend," concluded DiMichiel.
