NYU Upends Rochester, 6-3

From NYU Athletics

The New York University men's tennis team had a solid bounce-back performance with its 6-3 victory over University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent the University of Rochester on Saturday, April 14, in Rochester, NY.

After last week's loss to the Stevens Institute of Technology, the Violets (4-5) came back and secured the victory. The Yellowjackets saw their record drop to 6-11.

NYU got off to a good start in doubles, winning two out of three matches. Benedict Teoh and, in his season debut, Shrikar Kundur (#2) set the tone and energy for the Violets for the rest of the day as they defeated their opponents 8-3, while Vishal Walia and Rahul Das (#3) closed out the doubles round by beating their adversaries 8-4.

In singles, Umberto Setter (#1) swept his opponent 6-0 in the first set, lost 6-7 in a narrow tiebreaker in the second, but ultimately came out on top 6-3 in the third. Stefan Rodic (#3) also had an eventful three-set match, dropping the first set 3-6, only to battle back and save two match points to barely edge out his opponent 7-5, 6-4 in the next two sets. Walia also did well playing at #2 for the first time this season. It was close, but in the end he ended up on top after winning 6-4, 7-5.

"I thought it was a great team win for us," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "We had a few players step up and contribute big wins for us."
