Rochester Doubles Team Reaches Quarterfinals At ITA Regionals

One doubles team from the University of Rochester men's tennis team reached the quarterfinals of the ITA Northeast Regional Championships over the weekend at Skidmore College.
 
UR's pairing of Masaru Fujimaki and Peter Huang won two matches in the main draw of the doubles competition to reach the final eight teams of the tournament. In the opening round, the duo beat Vassar's Allen Sokolov and Nicolas Demaria 8-6. The second round saw Huang and Fujimaki top Skidmore's Jason Keye and Jack McClaren also 8-6.
 
In the quarterfinals, UR's team lost 8-2 to Alan Dubrovsky and Jonah Salita of Hobart College.
 
Rochester also entered four singles players and one other doubles team in the tournament, all of which fell in their opening round matches.
 
In singles, Fujimaki dropped a 7-5, 2-6, 10-3 decision to TCNJ's Tim Gavornik.  Matt Puig of TCNJ defeated Jun Yuminaga 7-6 (3), 6-2, while Huang dropped a 6-1, 6-1 match to Vassar's David Gandham. The final singles player was Andrew Nunno who drew a tough draw against the #2 seed in the tournament, Steven Koulouris of Skidmore and lost 6-1, 6-0.
 
The other UR doubles team was Nunno and Damani Eubanks who were drawn against the top seeded team of Koulouris and JT Wynne of Skidmore. UR dropped that match 8-4.
