From Washington University Athletics
Sophomore Bernardo Neves and senior Johnny Wu of the Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team were named to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-District Five Division III At-Large First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
BERNARDO NEVES
Neves has a 50-14 overall record in 2017-18 while playing No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, and was named the 2018 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Player to Watch. He has a 28-4 mark in singles, and is ranked No. 6 in the Central Region.
Neves was a first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) selection at No. 2 singles and a member of the UAA All-Tournament Team. He is seven wins shy of 100 for his career, and will represent WashU in the NCAA Singles Championship.
A 2018 Academic all-UAA selection, Neves has a 4.0 grade point average while majoring in mechanical engineering and computer science.
JOHNNY WU
Wu has a combined 28-13 mark while playing No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles. He is ranked No. 2 in the Central Region singles and has an 18-9 mark. Wu is 15-8 at No. 1 singles, and has a 4-5 mark against ranked opponents.
He is one-win shy of 100 for his career, and will also represent WashU at the NCAA Division III Singles Championship.
A three-time Academic all-UAA honoree, Wu has a 3.84 GPA while majoring in finance.
To be eligible for nomination to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or an important reserve.
Neves and Wu are now eligible to be selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Team, announced June 12.
