The Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team opened its 2017 fall season by competing at the Purdue Fall Invitational on Sept. 15-16, in West Lafayette, Ind.

WashU was one of 14 teams to compete in the three-day event, which included 10 NCAA Division I schools. The Bears were the lone Division III team in the field.

WashU advanced doubles teams to the championship match in Flight "A" and "B", while freshman Mark Wu took home second-place honors in singles of Flight "E."

Senior Jason Haugen and junior Konrad Kozlowski marched through the Flight A bracket with three wins, including a pair of wins over Division I teams from South Dakota and Wisconsin-Green Bay. The duo lost 7-6 in the championship match to a team from Cleveland State.

The doubles team of sophomore J.J. Kroot and freshman Benjamin van der Sman made a run to the finals of Flight B before falling 6-1 to a team from Butler. The duo ousted IUPUI and Ball State en route to the finals.

Wu took out three Division I opponents to advance to the finals in Flight E: IUPUI, Cleveland State and Bowling Green. He did not play in the championship match due to an injury.
