From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics

For the second straight season, Carnegie Mellon University senior Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), a member of the men's cross country and track and field teams, has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for men's cross country and track and field. CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. 

Newby graduated last week with an industrial design degree with a minor in human computer interaction. He earned a 3.55 GPA during his four years. In the fall, Newby also garnered his third straight All-Mideast Region honor in cross country after placing 13th at the regional. His regional finish earned him a spot in the NCAA Cross Country Championships for the second time, as he finished 53rd in the 2013 race. He also was selected to the All-Academic team by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in the fall for the third time.    

Throughout his career, Newby has won the University Athletic Association (UAA) 3,000-meter steeplechase title twice (sophomore and junior years) at the outdoor meet and holds the meet record. He won the 5,000-meter run his sophomore season and was named the 2012 UAA Outdoor Track and Field Most Outstanding Performer in the running events. He also set the Schenley Park cross country course record by three seconds during his sophomore season.
