David Dixon of CWRU Named Capital One Academic All-America®

Case Western Reserve University 2014 graduate David Dixon (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Men's Track & Field/Cross Country Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A first-time honoree, Dixon graduated with a 3.903 GPA in mechanical engineering.

He put an exclamation point on his track career this spring with a University Athletic Association Championship in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. He later ran to a career-best time of 9:19.26 at a last-chance qualifier.

During the cross country season, Dixon led the Spartans with four top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place performance at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Also a USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete, Dixon finished his cross country career as a two-time national qualifier, a two-time all-region performer and a 2012 All-UAA honoree.

Combined in track and cross country, Dixon was a six-time UAA All-Academic honoree.

The Capital One Academic All-America® Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception, a total of 85 Case Western Reserve student-athletes have been named Academic All-America®. That number includes six selections during the 2013-14 academic year.
