Two Spartan Men Win Events on First Day of UAA Championship

Senior captains Harry Weintraub (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) and David Dixon (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) each won individual events, and the Case Western Reserve University men's track & field team ranks fourth of seven after one day of the 2014 University Athletic Association Championship at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field.

Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) leads the field with 69 points followed closely by Washington University in St. Louis (62). The University of Chicago ranks third with 47.5 points, while CWRU sits in fourth with 36 points.

Weintraub won the hammer throw for the fourth time in as many years with a mark of with 55.72 meters. The UAA Championship meet record-holder in both the hammer and weight throw (indoors) events, Weintraub has a total of six UAA Championships in his career. He was an NCAA All-American in the hammer last season (third place) and ranks second in the nation in the event this season (204'10). Weintraub holds the school record in the hammer and weight throws.

Dixon captured his first career UAA title with a time of 9:29.64 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The race came right down the end with Dixon edging Josh Newby of Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) by less than two seconds.
