The New York University men's track and field team competed in the Salisbury University Elite Final Qualifying Meet, held on Friday, May 16, in Salisbury, MD.

Team captain, graduate student Dylan Karten, who already qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in the 5,000m, made an attempt to move higher in the national rankings in the 1,500m. He won the race in 3:52.85, lowering his personal best by almost 1.5 seconds. Sophomore Gerald Gorman was a runner-up in the race. He improved his career-best time in the event by more than two seconds, clocking 3:55.11. Junior Dharan Kadiyala placed third in 3:56.09.

"This time most likely won't get Dylan to the Nationals, but he wanted to focus on the longer event anyway," explained Head Coach Nick McDonough. "We had a strong team outing in the 1,500m today. Karten and Gorman improved career-best times. Nick Karam set a huge personal best, as well."

Highlights:

- Also in the 1,500m, senior team co-captain Ryan Gilmore finished sixth in 3:59.02, while freshman Nick Karam dipped under four minutes for the first time in his career, clocking 3:59.45 for seventh place. It was a personal best by eight seconds.

- Junior Zac Kish finished second in the 800m in 1:53.91, while sophomore Max Avila placed third in 1:55.33.

- Junior Brandon Deniz was second in the long jump with a mark of 6.31m.

- Junior team co-captain Tom Longabaugh was a runner-up in the pole vault (4.36m).

"Fortunately, the weather got nice and quiet for the time of the meet," added McDonough. "Athletes ran a number of good times today, and we are satisfied with our performances."
