From NYU Athletics
The New York University men's track and field team took part in
the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships,
hosted by the University of Chicago on Saturday and Sunday, April
26-27, in Chicago, IL.
The Violets took fifth place, one position higher than last year,
with a tally of 82.14 points. The victory went to Washington
University-St. Louis (213).
Co-captain graduate student Dylan Karten, coming off a 5,000m school-record set this Thursday at the Penn Relays, took second place in the 1,500m with a time of 3:55.93.
Another second-place finish for the Violets came from sophomore
co-captain Matthew Powers in the 100m dash
finals with a season-best time of 10.90, just 0.02 off his
career-best. He also competed in the 200m finals.
In addition, the Violets had three finishers in the 800m
finals.
"Our middle distance guys did a great job," said Head
Coach Nick McDonough. "We scored well in all the
races that we expected we would."
Highlights:
- Budd Brown earned All-UAA honors with his
third-place finish in the 400m final. The freshman sprinter clocked
a time of 49.88, his second-fastest time this season. In the 200m
final Brown was fifth with a time of 22.39.
- The 4x400m relay squad of Brown, sophomore Max
Avila, Powers, and junior Zac
Kish finished fourth with a time of 3:21.31.
- Kish led the way for NYU in the 800m, placing second with a time
of 1:54.46. Gorman and Avila placed fifth and sixth with times of
1:54.90 and 1:56.04, respectively.
- Sophomore Tyree Mobley placed seventh
in the 110m hurdles final with a time of 16.18.
- Freshman Caleb Su scored points in the
200m final, finishing seventh with a personal-best 22.90.
- Freshman Antony Zeng was eighth in the
discus throw with 37.10m.
- Freshman Nick Karam also brought one
point for the team, placing eighth in the 5,000m with a time of
15:24.09.
"The weather conditions were not optimal all weekend," said
McDonough. "Despite the unconducive weather, everyone still
competed very hard."
