Brandeis men's track and field senior Mo Sidique (Harlem, N.Y./St. Raymond's H.S. for Boys) won his third career University Athletic Association triple jump title today at the 2015 UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Emory University.
Sidique, who won the triple jump indoors and outdoors in 2014, was the runner-up at the indoor meet this year. Despite not competing in the triple jump so far this outdoor season because of injuries, Sidique produced what would have been the winning jump on his first attempt today, hitting 14 meters even. He bettered that in the finals round with a distance of 14.10 (46 feet, 3 1/4 inches) to win the event by 0.11 meters (4 1/2 inches). Sidique will need to improve but about a foot during the championship season in order to make it back to the NCAA Division III championships, where he finished in fifth place a year ago for All-America status.
Brandeis's other scoring performances on day two of the UAA Championships also came in field events. Sophomore Mark Franklin (Auburn, N.H. / Pinkerton Acad.) finished fifth in the high jump for the second time in 2015, having done so indoors as well. His height of 1.81 meters (5-11 1/4) tied for fifth this time around. In the javelin throw, senior Jonathan Gilman (Yardley, Pa. / George School) took sixth place with a distance of 50.37 meters (165-03).
The Judges also scored points with a pair of relays. The 4x100 team of junior Eddie Tai (Watertown, Mass.), senior Adam Berger (Concord, N.H./Concord), rookie Adam Beckwith (Arlington, Mass. / Concord Carlisle) and sophomore Nick Wactor (Oakland, Calif. / Head-Royce) took fifth place with a time of 45.70 seconds. In the 4x400, junior Matt Becker (Mendon, Mass. / Nipmuc Regional), sophomore Jeremy Wilson (Elizabeth, N.J. / Elizabeth), junior Trevor Tuplin (Weymouth, Mass. / Weymouth) and rookie Daniel Shin (Watertown, Mass. / Watertown) were seventh in 3:35.67.
