Thomas Vandenberg Breaks Carnegie Mellon Record at Allegheny

The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the 10th Annual Gator Invitational host by Allegheny College on Friday, May 8. Senior Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) set a new school record in the 800-meter run.

Vandenberg's time of 1:50.05 tops his own school record of 1:50.23 set last year, as he finished second in the race to junior Austin Becker of Buffalo State (1:49.74). Also running in the race was senior Elliot Watson (Lebanon, Ohio/Miami Valley School) who finished 14th in a career-best 2:00.09.

Junior Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./Niles West) competed in the 1,500-meter run, placing fourth in 4:00.81 while freshman Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) threw the discus 36.32 meters for 14th place and the hammer 42.89 meters for ninth place.
