Spartans Finish Fourth at Marv Frye Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University men's track and field team returned to action at the Marv Frye Invitiational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at Selby Stadium where they finished fourth of 12 teams with 63.83 points.

Senior Mark Kulinski (Oil City, Pa./Venango Catholic) took the title in the pole vault sailing over the bar set at 4.57 meters, while fellow senior Toby Kilroy (Lexington, Mass./Boston University Academy) finished sixth in the event with a mark of 3.97 meters.

With pair of scoring finishes in the jumps, sophomore Graeham Heil (Fort Thomas, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) finished sixth in the triple and seventh in the high jump with marks of 12.05 meters and 1.83 meters, respectively. Also in the high jump, junior Josh Malone (Berea, Ohio/Berea) finished sixth also with a mark of 1.83 meters. Freshman Zak Hurd (Perry, Ohio/Perry) finished sixth in the long jump with a final mark of 6.17 meters.

Senior thrower Sam Reusser (Orrville, Ohio/Orrville) finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 13.80 meters. In the javelin, freshman Pat Shober (New Castle, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) finished eighth with a throw of 44.06 meters.

The Spartans finished in three scoring spots in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Galen Caldwell (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) finished second with a time of 9:36.26, junior Zak Hess finished third in 9:47.03 and junior Sean Kennedy crossed the line with a time of 9:51.67.

In the 1,500-meter run, freshman Aidan DeSanto (McCordsville, Ind./Cathedral) stopped the clock for a time of 4:04.03.

Sophomore Devon Belew (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill) finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.72 while freshman Nico Ericksen-Deriso (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) finished eighth stopping the clock for a time of 50.78.

In the 800-meter run, sophomore Joe Ledger (New York, N.Y./Bronx Science) and freshman Andrew Ibibo (Green Bay, Wis./Green Bay East) finished fifth and eighth with times of 1:58.01 and 2:01.00, respectively.

The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Jonathan Freeman (Houston, Texas/Awty International School), sophomore Nathaniel Wahner (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby), Ericksen-Deriso and Belew finished fourth with a time of 3:24.99.
