Eagles Women’s 4x8, Men’s DMR Open Season with Program Records at Emory Invite

The Emory University Women's 4x800-meter relay team of senior Marissa Gogniat and Stephanie Crane, sophomore Alexa Young and junior Julie Williamson and the men's distance medley relay team of freshmen Max Brown, sophomore Ian McIsaac, junior Josh Traynelis and freshman Shane Sullivan each kicked off the Eagles' outdoor season with a program-record setting performances, during the first day of competition at the Emory Invitational on Friday.

Gogniat, Crane, Young and Williamson finished second in the event with a time of 9:14.64, bettering the previous school-record mark of 9:19.25, set at the 2012 Emory Classic.  Both Crane and Gogniat were a part of the previous record-holding relay as well.

Brown, McIsaac, Traynelis and Sullivan won the distance medley relay with a mark of 10:26.16.  It eclipsed the previous school record of 10:34.10, set at the 2004 Clemson Relays.

Other highlights from the first day of competition include first place finishes from senior Hannah Smith and junior Adam Rabushka.  Smith won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:19.87, while Rabushka claimed a victory in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 53.56 seconds.  Both times were career-bests.|

After one day of competition, the Emory men are in first place out of 25 teams, while the women are in third place out of 26 squads.
