Johnny Lake Breaks NYU Steeplechase Record at Princeton Open

The New York University men's track & field team is taking part at the Princeton Open hosted by Princeton University on Friday and Saturday, May 1-2.
 
The competition includes athletes from several NCAA Division I schools.
 
NYU senior Johnny Lake had a breakthrough race in the 3,000m steeplechase, placing second and improving his personal best by 25 seconds (9:03.12). That time is second-best in the nation among NCAA Division III athletes this season. Lake also broke the NYU record set in 2010 by Calvin Lee (9:09.31) by more than six seconds.
 
Highlights:
 
- Sophomore Carter Beardsley improved personal best marks in two events. In the hammer throw, he achieved 44.66m for eighth place, while in the shot put he sent the implement 14.94m to take sixth.
 
- Junior Max Avila and sophomore Curtis Mann finished 16th and 17th in the 800m with times of 1:56.38 and 1:58.60, respectively. Avila improved his season's best. Freshman Vince Booth was 20th in 2:00.22.
 
- Sophomore Nick Karam placed 20th in the 1,500m (3:58.33), setting a personal best. Senior Steve Crnic was 27th in 4:04.54.
 
- Freshman Max Mudd made his collegiate 5,000m debut, taking 17th place with a personal-best time of 15:09.70.
