NYU Finishes Strong at Swarthmore

The New York University men's track & field team took part in the Swarthmore College Final Qualifier on Monday, May 11, in Swarthmore, PA.
 
There were plenty of personal and season bests set by the Violets at this meet, which presented the Violets with their last opportunity to achieve qualifying marks for the upcoming Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championships and NCAA Division III Championships.
 
Sophomore Curtis Mann was the fastest among NYU athletes in the 800m. He set a personal best of 1:54.01 to finish 32nd. Junior Max Avila was 49th with a season-best 1:55.74. Freshman Vince Booth took 58th with a personal best of 1:57.15. while junior Eddie Cruz-Desintonio and sophomore Conner Meenanplaced 78th and 82nd in 2:01.55 (season best) and 2:02.01 (career best), respectively.
 
Highlights:

- NYU's A team of junior Matthew Powers, sophomore Budd Brown, Mann, and freshman Malcolm Montilus took second in the 4x400m relay with a season-best 3:17.96, while the B team (Booth, Avila, senior Tom Donegan, Cruz-Desintonio) was seventh in 3:29.64.

- Sophomore Nick Karam set a personal best of 3:55.12 for 33rd place in the 1,500m. Rookies Karn Setyaand Max Mudd each broke four minutes for the first time in their careers, running 3:57.27 and 3:58.54 for 43rd and 45th, respectively. Sophomore Nolan Hayes and senior Steve Crnic took 58th and 60th in 4:00.98 and 4:01.67, respectively. Both athletes improved upon personal bests, as well.

- Senior Tom Longabaugh was eighth in the pole vault with a height of 4.50m.

- Powers took 10th in the 100m in 11.25.

- Sophomore Nick Torsitano set a personal best of 56.58 in the 400m hurdles to take 14th.

- Sophomore Jorge Maldonado improved his 5,000m personal best by more than 20 seconds, taking 26th in 15:16.76.

- There was no team scoring kept at the meet.
