The New York University men's track & field team took part in the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships hosted by Emory University on Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26, in Atlanta, GA.

The Violets took fifth place with a total of 91 points, while the victory went to host Emory (197 pts.).

"Our men's team scoring 91 points is amazing, probably the highest score ever!" said Head Coach Will Boylan-Pett. "We're definitely improving consistently and going in the right direction."

Sophomore sprinter Budd Brown had an impressive showing both in the 200m and 400m finals. In the longer sprint, he placed second, improving his personal best by one second to 47.56. A couple of hours later, he won the 200m final in 22.20.

"Budd had a great meet," noted Boylan-Pett. "He set the tone in that 400m and ran a great time, probably sixth in the country at the moment. It could get him to the Nationals. And it was nice that he got himself a title in the 200m later. In the 4x400m, he split 48.3, the fastest on the team."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- The 4x100m foursome of sophomore Caleb Su, Brown, senior Devon Batiz, and sophomore Nick Torsitano took third in 42.85. The Violets were disqualified after the finish for an out-of-zone hand-off. The team was eventually reinstated, but the athletes didn't get to stand on the podium.

"The judges' call was that the hand-off from Brown to Batiz was out of the zone," explained Boylan-Pett. "But, someone had pictures, proving that we were in the zone. We appealed and got reinstated."

- Senior Zac Kish took third in the 800m (1:55.56). Sophomore Curtis Mann ran a personal-best 1:55.96 for fifth place.

"Zac ran three 800m races and one 400m race over the weekend, including his relay legs," said Boylan-Pett. "His final race was strong. He was trying to hang on to the rival from Carnegie Mellon, a very strong athlete, so it wasn't easy. Curtis improved his personal best twice over the weekend. There was a lot of good work put in by those two."

- Junior Boris Nimcevic took third in the javelin throw with a season-best 51.74m.

- Sophomore Nick Karam scored in the 1,500m with an eighth-place finish in 3:59.78, close to his personal best. Freshman Max Mudd was ninth in 4:03.33. Senior Steve Crnic and sophomore Nolan Hayes placed 15th and 18th in 4:09.82 and 4:15.65, respectively.

- The Violets set a season's best in the 4x400m. Junior Max Avila, freshman Vince Booth, Brown, and Kish ran 3:21.90 for sixth.

- Junior Matthew Powers, who yesterday ran the fastest time in the 100m heats, didn't start in the final due to a hamstring injury.
