Evan Scott of Brandeis Claims New England Division III High Jump Title

From Brandeis University Athletics

Brandeis University senior Evan Scott (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) won the 2016 New England Division III championship in the high jump today at Springfield College. He helped the Judges to a 21st-place finish, their highest finish since 2011.

Scott remained undefeated in the high jump in New England this outdoor season with a winning height today of 1.93 meters (6 feet, 4 inches). His overall height was tied with two others – Travon Godette of Westfield State and Ben Sattiewhite of Fitchburg State, but Scott cleared the previous two heights without a miss, while each needed an additional attempt to clear the bar. Scott's only loss this season came at the UAA Championships, where he finished second on number of attempts. Scott won Brandeis's first outdoor New England title since Chris Brown '12 captured the 1,500-meters in 2011.

Also earning All-Region honors on the afternoon was sophomore Mitchell Hutton (Villa Park, Calif./Villa Park). Hutton earned All-New England for the first time in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:04.46, more than 26 seconds better than his All-UAA performance and eight seconds faster than his previous collegiate best. He was the top sophomore in the event.

The Judges had two competitors finish just out of the scoring and All-New England honors in ninth place. Junior Quinton Hoey (Watertown, Conn./Watertown) ran a PR in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:40.26, his best by seven seconds, but a little over five seconds out of scoring position. Senior Kevin Trotman (Bristol, Conn./Taft School) added half a meter onto his best career shot put throw with a distance of 14.02m (46 feet even), but missed scoring by just two-and-a-half inches.

Also competing for the Judges were rookie Regan Charie (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet), who placed 24th in the 100-meter dash (11.54 seconds) and 23rdin the 200 (23.16); junior Mark Franklin (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton Acad.), no height in the high jump; and senior Adam Berger (Concord, N.H./Concord), who was 14th in the triple jump (13.00 meters) and 17th in the long jump (6.18 meters).
