Case Western Reserve University junior Joe Ledger won the 800-meter run at the Wooster Invitational over the weekend, pacing the Spartans to a number of strong performances during the meet.

In the team standings, the Case Western Reserve men placed fifth out of 12 teams with 55 points, finishing behind only Mount Union (165), Wash (106), Baldwin Wallace (72), and Ashland (67).  

Ledger was victorious in the men's 800-meter run, finishing first in the event with a time of 1:59.46.

For the men, sophomore Grant Mlack turned in another career-best performance with a time of 15.19 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, the best in the UAA this season, 21st among D-III competitors, and the fourth-fastest mark in school history.  Mlack now leads the conference in both hurdle events this season, after recording the top-mark in the UAA in the 400-meter hurdles last weekend.

Sophomore Alex Nesvisky was the Spartans top finisher in a pair of throwing events, placing 19th in the hammer throw with a distance of 40.64 meters, the fourth-best mark in the UAA, and 11th in the shot put with a mark of 13.38 meters.  Sophomore Ryan DeMarinis also climbed into the top-five in the UAA in the shot put with a mark of 13.13 meters at the Wooster Invite, finishing 13th in the event.

Junior Nathaniel Wahner recorded the second-best time by a UAA competitor this year in the 200-meter dash, finishing fourth with a time of 22.71 seconds, and senior Jared Brucker cleared the bar at a height of 4.13 meters in the pole vault, the third-best height in the UAA in 2016.  Freshman Ananth Sureshadded a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 6.34 meters, ranking him fifth in the event in the UAA this year.

The Spartans placed two runners in the top three of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with junior Galen Caldwell finishing second with a time of 9:43.54, 24th in Division III, and senior Chippy Kennedy placing third with a mark of 9:48.92, 33rd in Division III.

Other top finishers for the Spartan men during the weekend included sophomore Aidan DeSanto in the 1,500-meter run (3rd, 4:05.16), junior Nico Ericksen-Deriso in the 400-meter run (15th, 53.62), freshman Rasheed Ajala in the 100-meter dash (15th, 11.43), junior Perry Billett in the 400-meter hurdles (fourth, 58.82) and freshman Tyler Bushman in the discus throw (19th, 33.73m).
