The New York University men's track & field team competed in the Tom Farrell Classic on Saturday, May 7, hosted by St. John's University in Queen's, NY.
Senior Daniel Rieger produced a victory in the 5,000m, posting a season-best time of 15:45.34. Following behind were freshmen Brandon Shirazi and Grant Allington in second and fourth with times of 15:53.79 and 16:18.33, respectively, while Sophomores Robert Beit and Julian Marrufo took eighth (16:30.41) and 11th (17:06.66), respectively.
In a personal-best performance, sophomore Sam Praveen also posted a victory in the 3,000m steeplechase with a personal-best time of 9:58.33.
The 1,500m run saw junior Nick Karam claim victory by clocking a time of 3:55.97. Senior Max Avila finished fourth in a career best 3:57.64. Following close behind were sophomore Neil Saddler and junior Jorge Maldonado in sixth (personal-best 4:01.52) and seventh (personal-best 4:03.68), respectively.
Sophomore Vince Booth placed second in the 800m (1:56.89). Freshmen Daniel Saczyk and Soham Kamat finished hip-to-hip in fourth (1:58.38) and fifth (1:58.99), respectively.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Seniors Matthew Powers, Max Avila, sophomore Malcolm Montilus, and junior Budd Brown teamed up to win the 4x400m relay (3:18.47).
- NYU's 4x100m relay team of junior Caleb Su, Brown, Montilus, and Powers seized third with a time of 42.11.
- Brown and Powers returned to the track and finished back-to-back, taking eighth (22.05) and ninth (22.06), respectively, in the 200m dash.
- Freshman Daniel Sovich and junior Nick Torsitano finished close together in eighth and ninth place with times of 58.79 and 58.87, respectively, in the 400m hurdles.
