A contingent of the New York University men's track & field team participated in the College of New Jersey's Lions Invitational on Saturday, April 30.

In a season-best performance, sophomore Sam Praveen captured third in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:02.98 to start off the Violets.

He was followed by fellow distance runner Eddie Cruz-Desintonio in the 1,500m. The senior took ninth in 4:07.79. Not far behind was freshman Ben Haderle in 12th place with a time of 4:08.77. It was his first collegiate attempt in the event. Classmate Robert DeSisto placed 22nd posting a time 4:12.71.

The distance runners were not done, as freshman Daniel Saczyk secured 12th clocking a near personal-best time of 1:58.15. Cruz-Desintonio and junior Conner Meenan both registered career-best times to finish in 31st (2:00.92) and 33rd (2:01.17).

"Today there were pretty solid performances throughout," said Assistant Coach Mary Moore. "For the small group of men we brought out today, we performed well. Eddie to post a personal record is a great way in closing out his senior season. He missed his formal to compete today. Daniel and Ben both stepped up with solid runs today with their great times."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Junior Nick Torsitano took 26th in the 400m hurdles posting a time of 58.62. Freshman Daniel Sovich followed behind in 34th in 1:00.04.

- In the field, junior Nick Hespe placed eighth in the pole vault with a height of 4.25m.

- Freshman Abhishek Panigrahi finished 19th in the discus throw with a toss of 38.08m.

"Next week the whole team will be together probably for the final time this season," Moore stated. "Everybody is excited to squeeze in some great results together before summer comes by."
