Sophomore Daniel Pietsch became just the second Emory Men's Outdoor National Championship ever on Saturday at the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA.

Pietsch came-from-behind on the final stretch of the race to edge out Monmouth (Ill.)'s James Wilson by just .05 second to win the National Championship. Pietsch posted a school-record time of 46.92 in the event. and is just the second ever Emory male athlete to be crowned an outdoor national champion, joining Troy Thompson who won the Triple Jump in 1995.

Also earning All-America accolades on the final day of competition was Lukas Mees in the 3000m Steeplechase and the women's 4x400m Relay team of freshman Dilys Osei, sophomore Julia Leventhal, freshman Ariana Newhouse and sophomore Erica Goldman.

Mees becomes the first ever Emory men's All-American in the event after placing eighth with a time of 9:19.62 on Saturday. The women's 4x400m Relay team finished with a school-record time of 3:45.92 to place fourth. They are just the second ever Emory team to medal in the event, joining the 2012 third-place 4x400m Relay team.

The 11 combined points from Pietsch and Mees gave Emory a 24th place finish at the Championships the highest team finish since the 2008 team finished seventh. The women placed 51st at the meet with the five points scored by 4x400m relay.
