The New York University men's track & field team launched its outdoor season at the Emory Invitational on Friday-Saturday, March 17-18, in Atlanta, GA.
NYU totaled 13 points through the two-day invitational to place 15th out of 36 teams. Rowan University claimed the title by accumulating 132 points.
Junior Sherman King began the outdoor season with a bang, securing second place in the pole vault by clearing a height of J4.27m. The Williamstown, NJ, native narrowly missed tying pole vault winner Kyle Ray from Piedmont College, who posted the same height without touching the bar. Freshman teammate Austin Gregory placed fifth with a height of 3.97m.
"Sherman is continuing his progress and is developing into being a better jumper," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "He is competing well, putting his injuries behind him. He has a bright season ahead."
On the track, senior Curtis Mann finished in 10th place in the 1,500m by recording a career-best time of 4:04.40. Following behind in 24th was freshman Benjamin Heintz, registering a time of 4:11.46.
Mann returned for the 4x400m relay, teaming up with senior Caleb Su, senior Fred Lam and sophomore Daniel Sovich to finish 18th (2:20.61).
"Curtis had a good day today," said Hurtault. "He showed good fitness, performing well in both events. I am excited to see what he can do the rest of this season."
