Bears Take Title at Washington University Invitational

The Washington University in St. Louis men's track and field program earned the title at the WashU Invitational Saturday evening at Bushyhead track.

The men placed first with 161.5 points in route to finishing ahead of North Central's 145 second place point total.

Senior Deko Ricketts ran to a Francis Field Stadium record in the 800 placing first with a time of 1:49.61. Ricketts time ranks second in Division III. Senior Conor Cashner placed third in the 800 (1:54.93).

Sophomore Jason Singer, freshman Jon Fleming, sophomore Eddie Wintergalen and Ricketts finished with the fastest time in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:17.78. The group's time is third in Division III this season.

Freshman Nick Matteucci won the 1,500 with a time of 3:53.81 as the Bears totaled three of the top Division III times when senior Mike Sullivan (3:55.01) and sophomore Chris Blagg (3:55.74) posted the top-3 finishes. Matteucci's time ranks fifth, Sullivan ranks seventh and Blagg ranks ninth in the country.

The men's pole vault featured the top-2 marks in Division III this season as the Bears' senior Everett Kleven placed second with a mark of 5.05m. Junior Jacob Rother and freshman Brandon Hutchison also reached 4.50m which tied the tandem with several others for 19th in the nation.
